On our recent stop in Jaipur, we visited the lovely new Teatro Dhora space in Civil Lines. The shop features a superbly-curated mix of garments, homewares, furniture, and accessories from a mix of young Indian designers as well as Dhora’s own in-house label. After browsing through the collection (and picking up a thing or two for ourselves!) we chatted with owner Aavriti Jain about the new shop and her plans for it.
What was the motivation for opening Teatro Dhora? How would you describe the store?
We always wanted to create a space almost a meeting point for all lines of our work and the works of other artists working with the same aesthetics as us. Teatro Dhora, meaning ‘Theatre Dhora,’ is a platform for the real ‘Dhora’ experience where artists like us get a chance to share our work, and our love of creating things.
Who are some of the designers you are currently carrying? Are you planning to expand the collection?
With every coming month we get on board new designers and artists. Its a great journey discovering these brands and designers. As of now we are happy to be working with Translate, Nor Black Nor White, Example clothing, Rara Avis, Inshady Company, Joe Ikareth, Sanjukta, Studio Ochre, 431-88, O’Layla, Areeto, October, Studio Ochre, and of course our own label Dhora.
The space is lovely – who designed it?
The layout and the design has been done by us. Having set up Teatro Dhora we have now started taking interior projects as well.
What sorts of events/activities are you hoping to do in the space?
As mentioned earlier, this space is to welcome and share any form of art. We are looking out to have gigs, workshops, photography and art exhibitions as of now.
Besides your shop, what are your top picks for cool places/shops/restaurants/things to do in Jaipur?
To shop, Cottons and Anokhi. To eat, On The House and Jaipur Modern. And to chill, Bar Palladio and Ta Blu.
